"...You have a style all of your own...I'm sure you have had plenty of influences, but they have gelled into an original, heartfelt and passionate sound...."

Cindy, like her music, is an infusion. As a singer songwriter and indie recording artist her mixing of musical genres defies easy categorisation and reflects her proclivity for improv.  “She finds her material from life’s experiences that are taken and remade into her own concept.”1

Her CD Flight taps into vision from a new perspective. One reviewer noted, “This is a thoughtful, intelligently crafted effort that marks O’Neil’s stylistic range. Her voice is interesting and interpretive in an impressive way…Cindy O'Neil’s compositions walk the line between structure and free verse with a wonderful intensity. She combines dense explorations with the blues and synchronized harmonic and rhythmic textures.” The Flight CD contains 11 engaging tracks, enhanced with 3 short videos of the studio recording sessions.

Starting her performance career at age 18 with Insight Theatre and then Black Hat Entertainment, both improv-based companies (Ottawa ON) solidified what she already knew - Life is an improvisation, a creative response to events unforeseen.

In 1991 to enhance her film, television and theatre pursuits, Cindy took up singing professionally and worked with various bands in Ottawa. In September 1994 she moved to Calgary. A busy performance schedule, as well as multiple television and special event appearances quickly established her in the local music scene.  Equally at ease performing a cappella (national anthem), duos at private parties, and trios through to six piece ensembles at clubs and festivals Cindy’s unique voice and easy interactive rapport with her audience puts her on everyone’s “must hear again” list.

A partial list of her eclectic credits includes:
» 1999 · released her 2nd indie
CD Flight
» 2000 · the song “Livin’ Right” from her CD Flight was used in two episodes of Caitlin’s Way (Canadian TV series 2000-2002)
» 2000 · was a stand-in in the Italian/Canadian feature “Almost America”
» 2002 · wrote and self-published a children’s book titled, "Icicle Hands and Icicle Knees"
» 2002 · chosen as ‘artist of the month’ by FEMMUSIC.com
» 2004 · co-write and vocals on 2 tunes for the soundtrack of Canadian feature-length film “The Girl Who Married A Ghost” (written and produced by Sandra Sawatzki) 2
» 2005 · part of the cast for Paul Brandt's video "Leavin", and did a cameo (as they called it) in his video "Home".
» 2006 · all 11 tracks of her CD, Flight are now available as MP3 downloads on her website

Cindy’s latest recording "What We Are" (2006 single) touches on the impact chronic illness has on body, mind and spirit. Her future musical plans include recording music she’s written in the last few years along, with more co-writing and collaboration on projects with/for other artists.  She would also like to get back into doing voice over work.  To hear her original music go to the
CD's page.

Improv has taught her to flow with what life hands her and use it as a catalyst for taking musical risks. The U.S. e-zine JAZZ CHRONICLES review of Flight really captured the essence of Cindy and her music, “She is nimble, sometimes stormy yet able to resolve into sweet ballad-like cadences.”
